The holidays are a magical time of year around the Indianapolis Zoo.  Zoo grounds are covered in holiday lights and sculptures, and special animal activities take place nightly.  Leading up to Christmas guests can sing along with carolers, listen to local school choirs, meet Mrs. Claus, and even the big guy himself…ho ho ho!

One of the biggest attractions during the month continues to be the Indiana Rail Road’s Holiday Trainland.  The Hilbert Conservatory at White River Gardens is transformed into an enchanting holiday get-away with “O” and “G” scale model trains winding in and out of villages and towns constructed throughout the Conservatory floor and running at eye level just right for the little ones.

Challenge the scavenger hunt, see the evergreens decorated for each animal area at the Zoo, and marvel over the beautiful poinsettias and holiday flowers.  While you’re at the Gardens, visit the gift shop transformed into a Christmas Shoppe with holiday decorations that everyone would enjoy, and don’t miss the unique railroad art exhibit in the Schaefer Rotunda.

Kroger Christmas at the Zoo and Indiana Rail Road’s Holiday Trainland are free for members and included with regular Zoo admission.  Running through December 30, the Zoo and Trainland opens at noon with holiday activities at the Zoo running from 5-9pm.  The Zoo will also be accepting NEW gloves, hats, and scarf donations for the Julian Center Mitten Tree.  Non-members will receive one dollar off admission with a donation.
