The Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library, St. Meinrad, IN, will host an exhibit of watercolor and oil paintings by Kit Miracle of Birdseye, IN, through February 20.
Her show, “From the Back of a Bike,” features paintings she has created while enjoying another passion, biking. “My work primarily centers around local scenes and people,” she says. “Like many artists, I see colors that other people might overlook. As I travel throughout my day, I am always noticing shapes and contrasts and nuances.”
Miracle is the director of the Jasper Arts Commission and has worked professionally as an artist since 1983. She has done post-graduate work at the Paint Creek Center for the Arts in Rochester, MI.
She has participated in numerous exhibitions and shows and is a signature member of theWatercolor Society of Indiana. “Many of my paintings seem to resonate with viewers. The elderly couple caught in a shaft of light at the market, the splash of red in a field of poppies, reflected light on old sandstone archways.”
She explains, “I’m always delighted when someone stands before one of my paintings and I hear that ‘aha’ intake of breath. That’s the way I felt when I saw the subject and it’s nice to know other human beings feel that way, too.”
The library exhibit is free and open to the public. Library hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m.-noon, 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.; Fridays, 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m.; Saturdays, 9-11 a.m. and 1-5 p.m.; and Sundays, 1-5 p.m. Exceptions are January 21, when hours are 1-5 p.m. only.
