  College Football hall of Fame

September 2007

If you want to tap into the excitement of football season look no further than the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend.

The hall is a museum devoted to college football. It is situated in the renovated downtown district, near convention centers and not far from the campus of Notre Dame. The main museum hall is actually underground, with restaurants and meeting rooms above on the main floor.

Formerly located in Kings Mills, Ohio, the hall features memorials and memorabilia of great American football players and coaches of the past as well as areas to test your own punting, passing, blocking, speed, and agility. Experience the cutting-edge 360-degree Stadium Theater and surround yourself with all the actions and sounds of a college football game. Watch history come alive as you discover highlights from each decade with photographs, artifacts and video kiosks that give you a picture of how college football has changed through the years. At video monitors, visitors can try to predict game-winning strategy or watch great plays of the past.

If you don’t have a chance to get to the Hall of Fame you may be able to meet up with them on the road. Unveiled in July of 1999, the College Football Hall of Fame "Road Show" is the Hall’s state-of-the-art, traveling museum. Coachmen Industries of Elkhart, Indiana and Coachmen Recreational Vehicle Company of Middlebury, Indiana donated the RV to the Hall.

The Road Show helps build awareness of the College Football Hall of Fame throughout the country. The 38-foot vehicle is designed to give guests a feel for the 58,000-square-foot building in South Bend — and contains displays, artifacts and memorabilia from the Hall.

Upon entering the Road Show, you’ll immediately see a 3-D montage of images and artifacts representing the permanent exhibits at the Hall of Fame — including a video tour of the Hall. Throughout the Show, you’ll also find unique memorabilia, plus an interactive kiosk with bloopers, great upsets, legendary games and memorable plays from college football history.
