
Following the passage of a comprehensive energy bill in 2007 that contained increased Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for motor vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is currently considering public comments on their proposed fuel economy standard rule-making for passenger cars and light trucks in model years 2011 to 2015. NHTSA's rulemaking applies to all four-wheeled vehicles (including cars, SUVs, and trucks) with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of up to 10,000 pounds, with the exception of "work trucks" and multi-stage vehicles. This decision could, therefore, have a substantial impact on the availability and safety of RV tow vehicles. On May 30th, letters signed by five U.S. Senators and eight members of the U.S. House of Representatives were submitted to NHTSA for consideration.
